Dean's Letter
Dear students and friends of Clark University:
Welcome to Clark University College of Professional and Continuing Education Graduate Programs. We were established over three decades ago to bring to adult students the same quality graduate education that has characterized Clark University since its inception in 1887 as the second oldest post-baccalaureate institution in the United States. Our curricula are designed to meet the ever-elaborating needs of a nation and a world faced with conflict and change.
Faced with public sector downsizing, those working for government agencies and nonprofit organizations are finding the need for an increasingly wide range of administrative skills not easily gained on the job. From fundraising and marketing to grant writing, the Clark University Master of Public Administration (M.P.A.) program can provide you with the skills needed for the effective twenty-first century public sector manager.
The private sector firm of the twenty-first century is also facing issues that require a new kind of management training. As organizations reflect on issues such as quality assurance, re-engineering, strategic global marketing, and conflict in the workplace, it becomes increasingly clear that the successful firm is one that can communicate effectively with its internal and external audiences. In these challenging times, many degrees teach one how to manage a company; few teach you how to manage people. The Master of Science in Professional Communication (M.S.P.C.) can do just that.
In recent surveys by the U.S. government, it was found that employers prefer their Information Technology managers to have more than just a mastery of technology. They want their IT managers to also understand the business side of IT decision making. In addition to a strong grounding in problem solving and analytical skills, employers want their IT departments to be able to communicate change effectively. The Master of Science in Information Technology (M.S.I.T.) degree has its focus squarely on both technical and management competency development.
